250th anniversary of the Lantern Signal at Old North Church
Two hundred fifty years ago, on the night of April 18, 1775, a quietbut decisive act of
defiance set history in motion. Freemasons Robert Newman and CaptainJohn Pulling
ascended the steeple of Old North Church, briefly displaying twolanterns—a signal that
launched Paul Revere’s legendary ride and changed the course of anation.
On April 18, 2025, the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts, in partnershipwith Old North
Illuminated and the City of Boston, will once again light thesteeple, honoring the courage
and sacrifice of those who ignited the American Revolution.

🔹 Welcome by Boston Mayor Michelle Wu – Officially kicking offPatriots Day Weekend 2025
🔹 Theatrical Performance: “Revolutionary Edge” – A dramaticretelling of that fateful night
🔹 Lantern Lighting Ceremony – The historic signal will shineonce more from the Old North
Church steeple
🔹 Reenactment: Paul Revere’s Ride Begins – Watch as areenactor rows across the Charles
River, retracing Revere’s daring journey
🛡 Masonic Attire: Massachusetts Masons attending should wear adark suit and tie and are
encouraged to don their REV250 aprons, symbolizing our fraternalconnection to this historic
